ASTRID MARINA GOTUZZO currently lives in the Italian Riviera near SanRemo. She recently acquired an old stone tavern in a medieval village that will be converted into her studio where she will start her ceramic life in Italy. After spending several years back in Southern California (2001-2009), she entered in many art shows and was awarded prizes for her ceramic art. The Home & Garden TV Show (HGTV) documented her work on “Storytelling Tiles”; The Los Angeles Times did a 2-page cover on “Traditions”; She was invited to speak at Universities and Art Institutions; and Duncan Ceramic Enterprises commissioned her to create two ceramic pieces (tiles & platter) using their new color paints, Neon and Earth-Tones, to help launch Duncan University classes. Gotuzzo lived in Rome (1990-2001) and worked in the Entertainment Industry for companies such as, Warner Bros., Universal Pictures, The Fellini Cinecitta Studios, and organized several International Cinema Festivals in Cannes, Rome, Tuscany and along the Italian Riviera and the Amalfi Mediterranean Coast. During her stay in Rome she enjoyed the arts and studied ceramic techniques and trained by a prominent Roman family, Paolelli, who's been in the ceramic business for over 150 years. She earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree and an Associate of Arts Degree in California; studied at the University of Florence, and apprenticed in Rome. For 15 years, she worked in movie productions both in Italy and Hollywood with Oscar winning Actors, Directors, Art Designers and Sculptures - All masters of storytelling. She traveled throughout the world acquiring different perspectives for the use of pottery and different manners in communicating traditions and stories onto vessels. Gotuzzo lived, worked and studied in Florence, Portofino, Malta, Nepal, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Peru. She traveled throughout Western Europe; sailed the Islands of Italy, Greece and Tunisia; Explored Machu Picchu and the Incan civilization in Peru; safaried in Kenya and climbed Mt. Kilimanjaro in Tanzania. Appreciating pottery along the way. |

She listens to people’s stories and interprets them onto art-form and compose their stories into poetry. She created many of these Heirlooms for influential individuals as “special gifts”, gifts for people who have everything. It created a sense of legacy by documenting events and their achievements on ceramic, a material that can last thousands of years and a perfect medium to pass down family stories. |
